Winter guard scores first at competitions

The winter guard has started off strong with two first place finishes in both of their competitions.
The team is currently seeded first in the Scholastic A National division. This division is the highest division that a high school team can be in. They even scored higher than the University of Alabama’s color guard in one competition. They have attributed their success to practice and hard work.
“We do practice routines every day during fourth block at school and twice a week after school which adds up to about 17 hours a week of practice. We try to go through the routine as many times as possible,” co-captain Victoria Lewis said.
The team can also attribute this success to their instructor Stan Gillispie. He is the person that choreographs all of the team’s routines. Gillispie comes in every day to work and he plays a big role in getting the team ready and excited for upcoming competitions.
“He is in my opinion the best of the best. We are very lucky and fortunate to have him. He is very experienced and he takes his time creating the show,” Lewis said.
The team has five competitions remaining this season. They hope to carry over the success from their previous competitions.
“I feel that we’re really at the top of our game and I feel that we will be able to continue this excellence throughout the rest of the season,” Lewis said.
