Varsity dance team claims awards

The varsity dance team attended Universal Dance Association’s Alabama Dance Championships at Spain Park High School.
They started working on their three dances around August and took all three to competition and competed against seven other teams in each category.
“We worked really hard on our dances. We had early morning practices, third block practices, and after school practices,” senior co-captain, Ashley Gideon said.
The varsity dance team won fifth place in jazz, third in hip hop, second in pom, and judge’s choice for best crowd-pleaser. Gideon shares that the dance had difficult routines but all the members were able to master every step.
“All the girls worked well together, there was no drama on the team and nobody quit or gave up. We started and ended the season with all the 13 girls,” senior head captain, Jabrya Davis said.
All of the members believe the team had a strong and rewarding season.
“Im very proud of the girls, they came in early in the morning and stayed late after to school to practice, and they gave up their weekends to practice, Every moment has been great. We have grown as a team and I think we did a great job this year,” varsity dance team sponsor, Katherine Nies said.
