This spring, Sparkman softball will welcome two new coaches to the staff. Coaches Zachary Campbell and John Entrekin will partake in the lady senators season.

Campbell earned his Bachelor’s Degree in physical education at Athens State university, and his Masters Degree at the University of North Alabama. He has been teaching for a total of 13 years, and has coached for eight.

“I have always wanted to coach,” Campbell said. “I was greatly influenced by my coaches and have always wanted to be a Christ-like influence for others.”

Campbell plans to use his laid-back coaching style to give players the Christ-like love he was taught, and to have a good work ethic.

Coach John Entrekin is also new to the the staff. He has earned his Bachelor’s in Mass Communications from Auburn University, and his Master’s in Education from Alabama State. Entrekin started coaching at Grissom High school and immediately fell in love with the sport.

“At this point, I know I have become a very good fundamental softball coach, but I am looking forward to learning even more about the game under Coach Palmer because I am the type of coach that is always interested in learning something new about the game or a new or better way to get something accomplished on the field,” Entrekin said.

If the players are willing to learn, he is willing to teach. His hardcore and enthusiastic approach to the players will contribute to their motivation and success during the season.

“I am very demanding of my players effort and energy levels; they will always be held accountable for that,” Entrekin said. “I really believe that if we can always get those things right it can cover up for any failures and softball is a game that is built on dealing with failures.”
