E.J. Jerez participates in the lip sync battle on the twenty-first.

Although the classes have been against each other during this homecoming and past week’s` school spirits efforts, they seemed to have one thing in common — a lack of participation.

To kick off homecoming week a lip sync battle was attempted on Monday. The only class that went all out were the sophomores, having four groups perform. They kept the audience amused and involved. The junior class tried their luck with an old school jam and a Justin Bieber song. The seniors had one group which performed the final song from the hit Disney channel movie, “High School Musical.”

Despite the fact that some students tried their best and actually showed school spirit, the show ended up being a snooze-fest. More students were happier to get a few minutes out of class rather than go see the actual battle. This shows that there was definitely not enough effort put into this activity and could have been much better than it was if more people had gotten involved.

We, as teens in High school, are so obsessed with our image that we forget to get out of our comfort zone and have a little fun. We only get four years to make friends, prepare for the future and enjoy life before entering the real world of jobs, colleges and family responsibilities of one’s own.

It is amazing how at times we can band together and yet just so happen not to participate in an activity meant to help show school spirit. But we can’t come together to support our football team and put class rivalry behind us. Monday had to be the ultimate disgrace in Senator nation. We can call our friends and plan the best outfits for 90s day, but we can’t come up with something to kick off homecoming week. How can we represent on Friday night for our school against others when we will not even show class spirit with one another?

This should be the “Time of Our Lives” but all I see is our classes doing the same thing we have been doing. Why not show school spirit? We will never get to experience this again in your lives, so take a second out of your busy schedules to show that you support our school. Show class spirit and be sure to wear the class color on Friday. Come out and support your team on Friday night, because one only gets a little infinity of time here. Why not make the best of it?
