Schedule distribution causes confusion

The elimination of TAP classes led to confusion Friday when students came back to school after Winter Break looking for their schedules. Students were instructed to go to their previous first block class when they arrived. After the bell rang, students were directed to the gym to form lines to pick up their schedule.

This seemed like an inefficient method when students were already organized; however Principal Mike Campbell informed us that this was not the case. The students fail to see the process beyond telling someone their last name and grade to receive a schedule.

“Schedules were not printed until the night before. Handing them out in first block classes would require sorting 1800 schedules,” Campbell said.

There were stories of students supposedly spending the entirety of first block waiting for their schedules in the gym and clusters of students confused on which line to be in. Although the stories of the “mob” in the gym were exaggerated by students, Campbell tells us that the system worked well.

“The schedule system worked much better than I anticipated actually. Within about 15 minutes every student had his or her schedule,” Campbell said.
