Right after we all return from Christmas hams and snowball fights a sense of “life fatigue” emerges. However there is no time to rest because it is time to dress up in crimson, black and white and take to the gyms to cheer on the basketball teams.

The basketball teams have new goals set in front of them this year. To host the area game at our home court is currently the primary focus of boys basketball coach Jamie Coggins.

“We are currently doing very well in our area. Beating Hazel Green on Jan. 24 will allow us to host the area game,” Coggins said.

The team has been working to increase their motivation and skill level; the increase in dexterity has been seen on and off the court, according to game attendees.

“Our defense has been practicing our stimulation. It is time for us to make big stops in order to improve. We are also working on emphasizing shooting so we can get more points during games,” Coggins said.

Coach Patrick Delay has been working to host the area game for his girls’ team as well. With only one game left and being number one in the state, the performance the girls have been carrying out will most likely take them to the finish.

“We are trying to fine tune our strategies as well as stay consistent with execution. We have been playing hard and the girls can’t be mad at a loss if they don’t do their best,” Delay said.

The teams are to play on Friday at home against Hazel Green. This game is the game that defines who is the best in the area.
