Student Reviews Popular Horror Video Game

Dead By Daylight is a popular online asymmetrical horror game that has been out for seven years.

The focus of the game is one killer and four survivors. The killer’s main objective is to hunt down survivors for an eldritch deity known only as the Entity. The survivor’s objective is to work on five generators and then open one of two exit gates to escape. Throughout the game, there are chases between the killer and the survivor. The twist here is that the survivors can never directly fight back, only hinder the killer throughout the chase. The best ways for survivors to hinder kills are by throwing down pallets on them to stun them, using windows to gain extra distance and remove the line of sight and blinding the killers with either flashlights or flashbangs.

Killers are forced into a first person point of view whereas survivors have the advantage of being in the third person and being able to look around and see the killer before the killer sees them.

The game is extremely fun. Because both sides have a perk system, they can use four perks that would help them throughout the game, giving them minor advantages or boosts. I prefer playing as a survivor and enjoy the experience far better than the killer side of things.

Killers can do things like pull survivors off generators, hit them and use their unique powers. Every killer has a unique power that gives them an extra advantage over survivors.

Survivors can run from killers and have multiple items, like flashlights, med-kits, toolboxes, keys, maps and flashbangs they can obtain and use to give them an advantage in trials. Each is unique in its action and what it can perform to help survivors and harm killers.

My favorite part about the game, though, is the survivor cosmetic options and the amount of survivors to choose from. Survivors’ unique perks can be shared throughout all survivors so survivors do only serve cosmetic purposes.

This is one of my favorite games and I have been playing it since October 2017. It constantly receives updates and is currently the most popular asymmetrical horror game.
