Football team just short of win

Despite an excellent showing by quarterback Mason Edwards and holding a fourth quarter lead, the football team lost 25-24 to Huntsville High School.
After being pummeled by Bob Jones in their previous game, the team put together its best game of the season. Edwards also played his best game of the season, putting up 358 yards through the air on 21 completions out of 28 attempts. Mason Edwards was nominated for AL.com player of the week after his performance.
The team held a four point lead late in the fourth quarter and drove deep into the red zone. A fumble gave the ball back to Huntsville and made the trip to the red zone empty. Huntsville then took over and mounted a 95 yard touchdown drive which culminated in a touchdown run by Huntsville running back Francisco Tirado. Tirado gashed the team’s defense for 176 yards and two touchdowns during the game.
The defense did a good job of bottling up the Huntsville offense until giving up the long game winning drive. The defense performed well above its season average. Before this game the defense had given up an average of 38 points per game. The offense also matched its highest scoring total of the year by scoring 24 points. The offense has averaged a mere 15 points per game this season.
The team plays its next game at Russellville High School on September 26.
