Order on the court: volleyball team expects wins

At the top of their game, the varsity volleyball team is ready to show no mercy.
The squad has prepared for this season by stepping up their conditioning schedule. During the months of June and July, the team attended D1 Sports Training three times a week. Senior player Morgan Gibson believes a more experienced team is a winning team.
“As a team, we are more experienced than years past. We are more familiar with Coach Elder and we know that we have the ability to make it farther than we did last year,” Gibson said.
Three freshmen will be joining the team this year. They are expected to perform their best every day, whether at practice or in a game situation.
“I feel like all three of the freshmen on the varsity team will have an impact, even if it is not on the court. The upperclassmen know that we have to be good examples for them. We work harder to do the little things right and make sure that we set a high enough standard for them. This will impact our play on the court, as well as all of us in being better players and people this season,” Gibson said.
The extra prep work put into the preseason should give the teams some benefits. Junior player Bailey Mayes agrees that the strength gained from training will help the players.
“We’re a really strong and hardworking team and we definitely never give up. We all love the sport and have the same goals in mind,” Mayes said.
Even though sports can be very time consuming, Gibson enjoys every second of it. She is hoping for a great last season with her team.
“Volleyball takes up most of your time while we are in season, but we [the team] still see each other every day. I’m going to miss being a part of the team once the season is over,” Gibson said.
