Netflix has produced a historic drama about the British Royal Family called “The Crown.” It is loosely based on real events in Buckingham Palace. The fourth season highlights the experience of the late Princess Diana of Wales interacting with the royals and learning their way of life. It details her struggling marriage and battles with bulimia. Many viewers couldn’t help but compare Princess Diana’s story with that of Meghan Markle. Shortly after the most recent season of “The Crown” aired on Netflix, member of the family, Prince Charles announced that he was not happy with the depiction of his and Princess Dianna’s relationship.

Wherever you go, there will always be a comparison of Markle to Diana. Because they were both outsiders it was difficult to assimilate to the lifestyle of royalty. In a two hour interview with Oprah Winfery, Markle revealed that she has had problems with her mental health for a while and was declined help from the institution despite the Royals’ mental health matters campaign. Megan has also revealed that she “Just didn’t want to be alive anymore.” According to the interview, Markle revealed that she had suicidal thoughts while pregnant with her son, Archie. Even, planning out the steps to her death.

Because of this revelation, a large reaction was sparked from UK citizens and people around the world. It’s disappointing to see that a large number of people call Markle a liar. Despite Prince Harry supporting Meghan’s story, many UK citizens are taking the side of the monarchy.

The British royal family is the blueprint to modern racism so it’s no surprise that one of them had concerns about how the skin tone Megan’s child would turn out and what would happen if he was too dark. Megan told Oprah that while she was pregnant the family informed her that her child will not receive a royal title of ‘prince’ or any protection. Many viewers can’t help but call out the racist comments. It’s awful that this conversation needs to be had but it’s not surprising to hear claims of racism. Many members of the family have been caught doing and saying extremely racist things

 The Royal Family is an outdated institution. They are a reminder of Great Britain’s dark past of colonialism, having splurged on nearly a quarter of earth’s resources. The queen of England has no real power. So the government is truly reliant on Parliament to make prime legislation. In reality, the British royal family is simply just a living tourist attraction.
