TOP TEN: Tips for Taking the ACT

 

  1. Have a good breakfast: This may seem elementary but working on an empty stomach is unhealthy. Eating will also help to keep you focused and not think about food.
  2. Be prepared: Have your test taking tools with you, Get plenty of sleep and wear comfortable clothes. These are simple things that one can do to take some weight off your shoulders.
  3. Take a practice test: If you’re shooting for a really good grade, It is recommended that students take practice exams. Use free resources to study!
  4. Find the Wrong Answers: Finding the correct answer sometimes requires picking out the ones that are without a doubt incorrect. Use the process of elimination.
  5. Answer ALL questions: If you’re not sure something is correct, fill in the bubble anyway. It’s important to fill in every one to get the most out of your grade.
  6. Skip Questions: It’s okay to skip harder questions and come back after you’ve finished. It will save you some time.
  7. Pace yourself: If there are 60 Questions in the math section and you have 60 minutes to complete it, you have 1 minute for each question. Keep that in mind and watch the time.
  8. Rough draft the essay: Take 5 to 10 minutes to outline for your prompt and organize your ideas. It’s not wise to go in blind and write without a plan.
  9. Don’t Second Guess Yourself: The first answer you get is more likely to be the correct answer; don’t second guess yourself.
  10. Don’t Stress: Some students forget that the ACT doesn’t determine their entire life or their career for that matter. So don’t Stress yourself out because you may have got no. 27 wrong in the science section. You don’t need to get a perfect score so take a deep breath and stress yourself out about it.
