Google fibers ginormous gigabyte

March 3, 2016

On Feb. 22, Mayor Tommy Tommy Battle announced that Huntsville, by the end of 2017, will indeed be a gigabit city. As a matter of fact, Huntsville will be the first city in all of Alabama to have access to Google’s Google Fiber Internet and HDTV service. We are finally entering the era of super fast internet and TV.fiber

Google Fiber offers up to 1000 megabytes per second internet for both commercial and residential areas meaning that both at work and at home a customer can have one of the best connections in the States. No longer will anyone have to worry about download times or lagging in the middle of a game. On Google Fiber, they let one see how long it would take to download files; the results are truly amazing. 100 songs, photos, and a video game all could be downloaded at around 3 seconds while an HD movie could be on your hard drive in under 7 seconds.

Huntsville Utilities will be leasing their lines to Google allowing for a quicker completion of the project; which is scheduled to be completed by mid-2017 for small homes. Fiber will be available citywide in four years. High-speed internet will cost $70 and with the addition of high-def TV the pricing will be $130. Welcome to the new era, the era of high-speed everything!
