Students join together in memory for fellow student

October 28, 2015

The Senator family grew closer together due to the memorial that took place today in remembrance of junior Ariyanna Benjamin who passed away in a car accident Saturday.

First Priority sponsor, Evan Carter, got together with his students and coworkers to create a reflective memorial for family and friends of Benjamin. The event started off as a small reminiscence for the girl’s basketball team, but due to social media, grew larger and larger as more people wanted to pay their respect. Photography teacher, Eric Mittman, framed a photo of Benjamin and SGA provided flowers. First Priority set up everything from the singers, to the speakers to the preachers.

The memorial was not only an eye opening event, but a moment for the Sparkman community to grow closer. It was a blessing for all the support to the family and friends of Benjamin. The basketball team, close friends, Benjamins godmother and her mother all addressed the hundreds of students in attendance.

Students and faculty walked away from the memorial with encouraging words and the remembrance of a great friend and Senator.

Benjamin’s family will be holding an open funeral Friday, Oct. 30 at 1 p.m.
