The annual Chemistry Club Christmas Party held Thursday December 11, 2014 also served as a Talent Show for some lucky students. Omri Merchant won performing his own song. This is the first year Mrs. Hodge has thrown a talent show, and she hopes to encourage others for next year to showcase their unique abilities on the cafeteria stage.
“I have a lot of students that while in class they want to sing, so I thought, ‘We have so much talent here at Sparkman, why not give them a chance to share it with the rest of the student body?’” Hodge said.
This year all the contestants sang, but any talent was allowed. Everyone fought hard for the top spot and the prize money.
“There was a $50 gift card prize or the option of using the $50 to go towards their Six Flags trip,” Teresa Hodge said.
Brianna Walker wanted to boost up her courage and share her talent with the world. The $50 wasn’t a bad incentive either.
“I sang. I have been singing since I was a little girl. I get nervous on stage, but I hope for the best and [stay] positive. I also needed the money so it could go towards my trip to Florida [Dolphin Island],” Walker said.
