Smell Good, Feel Good

Signature Scents That Tell Personalities

The earliest development of perfumes was discovered in the 1900s. Today, there are more popular and expensive brands like Coco Chanel or Ralph Lauren, as well as more affordable brands like Bath & Body Works or EOS. What differentiates scents is the different tones of usage. Overusing can wear out the scents, but not using enough can give a short-term fragrance. Another difference would be the styles. Some prefer more elegant and classical, and some prefer more modern, expressive scents. These scents are the different perfume and cologne fragrances. Below are different scents for further explanation.

  1. Fruity

Fruity scents are divided into different categories.

  • Lactonic, such as peach or plum
  • Watery, like watermelon or honeydew
  • Berries, like strawberry or blackberry
  • Tropical, like mango or pomegranate
  • Pome, like apples and pears

Fruity scents give off cheerful or high-paced energy. Some of the popular scents known for their fruity fragrance are Jo Malone London and Xerjoff.

  1. Vanilla

Vanilla scents also have different categories, including mixtures of caramel, chocolate and creamy whipped topping. Vanilla scents express neutral or inviting energy. Vanilla-scented fragrances are very common, but the one that stands out above all is YSL.

  1. Fresh/Clean

Clean and fresh scents involve natural or non-toxic ingredients. Fresh and clean fragrances provide a calm or cleaning aesthetic. For those who want more neutral and natural scents, Byredo and Maison Margiela would be considered most popular.

  1. Floral

Floral scents are more chemical-based fragrances that can give off an aroma of how a flower should smell. Like roses, hibiscus, and daisies. Floral scents give off more romantic or angelic personalities. With this also being a very common perfume scent, the popular brands that are notorious for floral options are Flowerbomb and ChristianDior.

  1. Aquatic

Aquamarine scents can be described as oceanic or sandy, and also as tropical scents like coconut or mango. They also provide more beachy or summer vibes. With vibes of morning rays and clear skies, these popular aquatic scents are simply complementary, like Giorgio Armani and Davidoff.

  1. Gourmand

Gourmand is described best as a baked treat. Some would prefer to smell like cupcakes or fresh bread. They could provide cozy vibes like warmth and spice. The smell of physical baked goods can also be put in perfume form with popular brands that are known for it, like Thierry Mugler, Le Monde Gourmand, and Kayali.

  1. Citrus

Citrus has fruity scents but more sour citron-like, these scents include fragrances like lemon, orange, or lime. Citrus is a more lively or energetic personality. For citrus and breezy vibes, Acqua di Parma and Atelier Cologne would be considered most popular.

  1. Warm & Spicy

Warm and Spice doesn’t necessarily have a specific scent, but more so, slight hints of cinnamon or ginger. This scent is more limited towards the holidays with the inclusion of vanilla scent notes.  For a warmer and spicier fragrance, Tom Ford and Maison Margiela are popular to pair with vanilla scents, too.

  1. Herbal

Herbal scents also have a close relation with warm and spicy scents, but can also include more natural fragrances like lavender and mint. Herbal has a more calming and relaxing vibe. Herbal fragrances are more popular with the brand Jo Malone London, as well as with sage and other natural scents.

  1. Musk

Musk scents would be considered more male-centered but still a unisex fragrance. This scent can be described as more earthy or woody. Musk scents give off dominant and confident energy.  Popular musky brands people like and find most popular are  Narciso Rodriguez and Polo Ralph Lauren.
