In today’s society, artists use music to express their feelings, make a statement and communicate with the world around them. Here are some of the most popular artists this year.

SZA ( Solána Imani Rowe) is incredibly popular among our generation with 60.8 million monthly listeners and being ranked the Twenty-second most popular global artist according to Spotify analytics. Though she only has a few released albums, her music is marvelous, filled with stories of love, betrayal, passion and adoration.

Ice Spice (Isis Naija Gaston) known for her unique ginger colored afro, is an up and coming recent artist that has dominated the charts in the past two years with hits such as “Munch” and “Deli”.

PARTYNEXTDOOR (Jahron Anthony Brathwaite) is a Canadian artist. He writes songs with smooth lyrics and soothing R&B vocals.

Billie Eilish is a California native whose music is prominent among the younger generations. Her debut song, written by her brother Finneas O’Connell “Ocean eyes” is what helped her gain popularity.

Lana Del Rey (Elizabeth Woolridge Grant) is beloved by people of many ages. She has been featured in many soundtracks such as “The Great Gatsby”. Some of my personal favorites of hers are “violets for rose” and “Video Games” 

Frank Ocean (Christopher Edwin Breaux) is a R&B and Soul artist known for his introspective lyrics and beautiful voice. His most popular songs include “Pyramids” and “White Ferrari”.

Taylor Swift  is world famous for her songs about heartbreak, love, redemption, revenge and so much more. Her Eras tour that has sold out many stadiums and other venues, has also helped boost the United States economy tremendously. 

Adele- Adele is a British artist whose music has gone global. Though she does not release often, when she does you’re more than guaranteed to have a heart-wrenching hit to listen to for weeks. 

The Weeknd (Abel Makkonen Tesfaye) is another Canadian-born artist whose songs are known for their upbeat tones but also delivering messages of heartbreak. A couple of his more well known songs are “Blinding lights’ ‘ and “Starboy”.

Doja Cat (Amala Ratna Zandile Dlamini) is an artist known for having creative lyrics and unique flow. Although surrounded by controversy concerning how she treats her fans online, her music remains exceptional.
