For the second time in a row, the Sugar Bowl National Prep Classic, a high school basketball event, took the Lady Senators to New Orleans.

The ladies went on to overcome Parrish Community 70-21 to make it to the semi-finals, however, they lost to John Curtis, whom they defeated 71-63 in the previous season, 35-45.

For some of the ladies, this was their first time attending the tournament.

“It felt good to be able to attend because it was the one tournament that I missed last year,” senior Abethany James said. “We played against talented teams and got to spend time with my teammates.”

While the Lady Senators were at the tournament, senior Jamaya Griffin received the Sugar Bowl National Prep Dave Michel Scholarship which is awarded to one boy and one girl.

“The atmosphere was exciting because of the opportunity to play against great players,” Griffin said. “I am very humbled and grateful to receive the award. I have always been told by the people in my life that hard work pays off.”
