Baseball begins new 2016 season

As baseball season kicks off, Sparkman’s teams get ready for what may turn out to be a record-breaking season.

The varsity team is trying to break the high school doubles record of 154 doubles in a single season. They played part of an ongoing tournament Feb. 19-21 down in Thompson. They played Thompson, Hoover and Hartselle winning all three games and hitting 19 doubles in the span of those three games.

As for the junior varsity, they also played in a tournament however the end result was not as they had hoped with three losses. Despite these losses, the team and coaches persist that they played well and will continue to develop as individuals and as a team as well as get the players ready to be on the varsity team.

As for the upcoming events, the varsity will play single games against Buckhorn and Vestavia and they will finish their tournament the weekend of Feb. 26-28. Also in a couple of weeks the varsity will go down to Lakepoint Georgia for a huge tournament, in which they will play some of the best teams from around the country. In the foreseeable future, the junior varsity has just a multitude of single games to be played.
