Spanish Club honors former teacher with a feast

On Friday April 25 the Spanish club will be host a free sampling feast at the MonroviaCommunity Center. The purpose of the feast is to help former Spanish teacher Charlotte Madison in her efforts to raise awareness about bladder cancer.

“I believe it is morally and ethically right to give back to her some. I think we all need to give her our support and be with her as she advocates for this charity. She is a cancer survivor and an inspiration to many,” Spanish teacher Carla Terry said.

Terry and the Spanish club officers came up with the idea for the feast. They have been working hard to get the members involved, plan meals and publicize the event.

“We will be serving Spain cuisine, appetizers, entrees, side dishes, desserts and drinks. Admission is free, but we will be accepting donations for BCAN,” senior Brittany Garrett said.

Donations will also be handed over to Madison in order for her to lead a walk at Bridge Street Town Centre on May 3 at 9 a.m.

“Mrs. Madison was always willing to help out in school in various activities. She baked for teachers, she cheered at the games, and she shared lessons, ideas and materials with other Spanish teachers. People that live their lives to service others should be honored and supported,” Terry said.

Terry and the Spanish club members have worked hard to get the word out about the feast and walk. They are encouraging staff and students to come out and support.

“I hope people become aware of bladder cancer. No matter how much money we raise, it is all about the cause. I also hope that people see how our community can come together to support the cause. That would be amazing,” Garrett said.
