It’s a Jeep Thing.

Have you ever walked by a Jeep and wondered why there are ducks on the dashboard?

Ducking jeeps started when a woman in Ontario, Canada gave a fellow jeep owner a duck with a note that said “nice jeep” after a spat with someone at a gas station. The trend started to spike and more and more jeep owners decided to start doing it as a playful gesture to other jeep owners. They thought of it as a good way to spread kindness.

Some jeep owners place a duck on an unsuspecting Jeep just to say hello or to surprise the owner and some do it to compliment their jeep or just to put a smile on their face. Jeep owners seem to enjoy getting ducked and look forward to getting new ducks of different colors.

Jeep owners have started to collect them and like to show off the colorful and decorative collection of ducks on their dashboards. Some range from small to large ducks. Some ducks are plain yellow and some have different outfits and styles or showcase different animals. If you are driving around and see a jeep you will most likely catch a glimpse of the colorful variety of little ducks on their dash.

Some jeep owners even regifted the ducks that they were given. There are no rules for jeep ducking and you are free to place the duck wherever you see fit on a jeep. The most common spots are door handles, hoods, or bumpers.

My mom owns a Jeep and it brightens up her day when she walks out of a store and sees a duck on the handle of her vehicle. There have been very few times when we have left Walmart or other random stores and not have seen a duck on her car.

So, now you know the story. If you see a jeep with ducks just know that it is the jeep owners’ way of spreading kindness and smiles.
