“Free Palestine”. This phrase has been all over the internet. It is what we who seek to free the country from the genocide have been repeating.

Over the last three months, Starbucks and other companies have lost money to boycotts over their support of Israel in the conflict. Starbucks alone has lost $11 million in business. The boycotters are adamant about getting a ceasefire.

Since October, Israel has continuously bombed the Gaza Strip. Originally they claimed to be bombing Hamas, a terrorist group in Palestine, but it can no longer be seen as the truth as they steadily bomb Gaza killing and injuring nearly 40,000 people. The remaining Palestinians are struggling to survive hunger and homelessness.

It is insane to think that for the past months, Palestinians haven’t been able to have their needs met. Running water, hot food, clean clothes, and even something as simple as clean bathrooms have been taken from them. Medicine is a big one as diabetics are not getting the medicine they need.

The journalists there are doing the Lord’s work. They have no electricity but these journalists have been informants to the rest of the world for months on end–keeping people fed, attending to the wounded, telling us where has been bombed, and more.

Since the public found out about the genocide in Gaza, protesters have advocated for a ceasefire. Advocates have called and emailed Congress, asking for the U.S. to intervene and stop the genocide. Congress and world leaders have been discussing, this for months and not many actions have been taken.

In this genocide, the U.S. has taken the side of Israel, alongside eight other nations. Though the odds are stacked 153-10, the decision for the ceasefire still has not been made. To help influence the decision of the representatives, constituents keep calling and emailing and advocating for the ceasefire.

Protests for Gaza have been lessening by the day. If we intend to keep fighting for the cause some things should be taken into account–such as are we protesting the right way? There are many ways to protest, boycotting is a very common one.

Before you boycott a company you should be educated. Facts are virtually at your fingertips. Just Google legit sites and you can be informed. There is no excuse for your ignorance. Know what you want to do. Don’t just be a bystander in a crowd. To protest is to support, know which businesses and corporations to support. Remember to protest safely.

Palestinians are fighting a battle that they never asked to fight. The world owes it to them to see what they are going through and to sympathize with them. They don’t need pity but what they do need is our help, let’s do our part and free Palestine.
