Parking issues leave students frustrated

December 18, 2015

Since the start of the school year, the parking lot has been a pressing topic for students who

drive to or from school. At first, the problem was that no one knew which way to go in order to

get out of the parking lot. Now, the problem has evolved into yet another issue of getting out of

the parking lot — cars blocking the exit.

To the majority of those who drive, it would be quite clear that their choice parking spot is in the

path to the main road leading out of the school. Why would anyone knowingly do this, one may

ask? The answer is simple, in my mind. I chalk it up to desperate times, calling for desperate

measures.

I know that when I’m running late or in a hurry, everything I do tends to be in a rushed frenzy

and I do not pay as much attention to small but vital details. So I presume that the unofficial

parking slots that have been made out of the path to the main road was done unintentionally, in

some cases.

Do not get me wrong, I am not excusing the people who have caused the latest and greatest

turmoil in the parking lot. This is no small matter — though their actions may have seemed to be

so at the time.

What they need to realize, is that even though they need somewhere to park too, the fact of the

matter is that they’re blocking traffic. No one can get out until they wiggle their way out

themselves. As a result, everyone else is at the mercy of the drivers blocking the exit. Not only

is this frustrating and irritating, but it is inconsiderate.

Yes, everyone who drives has to park somewhere, but if they can not find a parking spot then

they may have to either park away from the school and walk the distance from their car to the

school, or make a point to leave the house earlier to ensure that they get a proper parking spot.

A few people getting a parking spot is not that deep if it is at the majority of the other students’

expense.

Just like their is a penalty for parking in the parking lot if one does not have a sticker proving

that one’s car is registered to park, there should be a penalty for anyone who parks in

undesignated parking spaces. If it does nothing else, it should at least make people think twice

before they park.
