Fear of shots is something we never outgrow

One thing most children have in common is thinking that the doctor’s office is not a run on the playground. It is more of a monster playing hide and go seek under their bed.
The reason that children are afraid of the doctor’s office is not the old and creepy doctor or the nurse who is trying to hold them hostage. Oh no, it is the massive needle that is about to be plunged into their arm.
Kids are afraid of most things, and usually they grow out of them as they get older but shots are not one of them—child is never too old to be afraid of a shot or per say the needle. Getting vaccinations might help protect kids against various illnesses, but they sure do hurt and it’s not fun that children have to get shots so often. My question though, is shall a 17-year-old still be scared of a shot?
My answer is yes. Shots are not always the safest route.
While in the hospital recently a student was able to speak to another patient about the reason she had landed in the hospital. It came to be that the woman went to a regular doctor’s office to get a normal flu shot and two weeks later her nervous system had shut down, and immobilized her for about four months. The woman had to relearn how to walk, move her arm and had to enroll in speech therapy. The shot had changed her life forever. Now, are shots just routine?
It is ok to be afraid of shots. Although some shots are good for you, they still hurt and the finger prick is the worst of them all.
