Online gaming has been the powerhouse of people’s entertainment since 1990. It’s the source of how people interact, connect, and build memories with each other. At least it was, until years of constant upgrades of technology and new generations began to expose the gaming community as a whole.
Gaming is an online source of entertainment. Some popular online games include Fortnite, GTA, Roblox, and Minecraft. Along with games themselves, there are popular gamers that people look up to. Such as Bugha, Fanum, Flamingo, Technoblade, and Prestonplaz. Some of these gamers promote those games on YouTube, Twitch, and TikTok.
For the large fan bases of these games, there are negative effects that come with it. For example, there was a popular Minecraft YouTuber named Dream, who received serious backlash from the gaming community for past allegations, and people have given him serious backlash ever since. Even though he tries to make a comeback, there is only a small portion of his current fan base that still supports him.
With recent news of minor safety concerns on the internet, Roblox came under fire over allegations involving one of its gamers. According to Roblox’s website, “Roblox is the ultimate virtual universe that lets you create and share experiences with friends.” Schlep, whose real name is Michael, a prominent Roblox influencer known for his criminal-catching videos on YouTube, just so happened to find multiple criminals associated with minors on Roblox. Instead of Roblox taking action and creating a safer environment for the community, they chose to ban Schlep and other users associated with him, trying to make the game safer for all.
With another Roblox controversy, according to Gaming Amigos.com, Roblox’s stock dropped 10% due to allegations of banning some of their players within the community for simply speaking out against poor moderation and the terms of use. Kuwait banned Roblox due to the game’s lack of safety for children. In fact, the state of Louisiana’s attorney general is filing a lawsuit regarding the allegations of poor moderation on the part of Roblox.
More younger children are using online games, and according to Backlinko.com statistics, since 2025, 56% of Roblox’s daily users are under the age of 16. The majority of those children are willing to lie about their age to access voice chat, and this is what concerns most parents.
