Was Senior Sunrise Worth the Hype?

Senior sunrise is a popular senior tradition; students gather early in the morning and meet at school to watch the sunrise together, surrounded by friends, cozy blankets, and pillows. It’s meant for gathering and bonding with your classmates to celebrate the beginning of the last year of high school.

The senior sunrise is the first experience for seniors to feel the vibe for the new school year, but how the senior sunrise was advertised and the final product left students with many mixed reviews. I believe the senior sunrise went well and was a fun, free event for all seniors.

People hung out with their friends, got cozy with blankets and pillows since it was a little chilly, and I went and grabbed some coffee from Starbucks to make the morning a little better. My friends and I went to RaceTrack after the event and got some snacks, then headed to Publix for some more snacks before heading back to school. All in all, it was a fun event to start the year.

“I think Senior Sunrise was worth it for the experience. Honestly, for me, I had a lot of fun even during it, and after, my friends and I went out for breakfast together. It was short, but I really liked just gathering and taking pictures,” senior Sheika Alvarez said.

Some things could have been added, like food trucks and coffee trucks. You also couldn’t leave the event and come back, even if you just wanted to put your stuff away. I feel like that was the biggest inconvenience of the event.

“I wish there was a coffee truck there! I get it was early, but a coffee truck would’ve made it so much easier for those who need coffee in the mornings. Other than that, I just wish there was more communication when planning Senior Sunrise and I wish we got to decorate our parking spots! It would’ve been so much fun.” Senior Sheika Alvarez said.

Although Senior Sunrise seemed to be a hit, there were some mixed opinions about it. Most seniors believe that there could’ve been more offered then what was. The football field was where senior sunrise was held and it was soaking wet and kind of uncomfortable, as well as not having a visible view of the sunrise.

“No, definitely not. It was way over hyped just to get there and not even be able to see the sunrise. I liked being with my friends, but honestly it wasn’t really worth it,” Senior Scarlet Barton said,” It could’ve been in a place where we could actually see the sunrise, it could’ve had free food and drinks too.”

SGA worked pretty hard on the event to get it put together and to get the idea run through the administrators since many of the seniors wanted it done. Big thanks to the SGA president and team members for working hard and making the event memorable.

“We got a lot of inspiration from students and social media, plus as a senior personally, I wanted to do it,” SGA President and Senior Dani Langarica said. “I think it went pretty good, playing music, and I was working the playlist with Carmin in the stands, I think everyone had fun.”

Even having mixed reviews, SGA did a great job putting everything together to actually make it happen. Thank you to all the seniors who showed up to show support and enjoy the event, all in all I’d say this was a success.
