Throughout the month of October, Mr. Carter’s public speaking classes did demonstration speeches, teaching their classmates how to perform a certain task of their choice. They wrote about different topics like, how to bandage broken or fractured bones, how to make a red velvet cake, how to spin a basketball on your finger, how to throw a football, etc.

My demonstration speech was on how to make origami butterflies from post-it notes. It was super fun because my classmates were following along making their own butterflies,” sophomore Layla Bush said.

Students really enjoyed this fun activity and came up with different creative speeches from pogo sticks to juggling on unicycles. It’s a learning experience for everyone and just seeing what all the students know.

“I think they generally like this activity. It definitely puts the ball into their cord, they kinda steer the ship for this particular one cause they’re the teacher for this one, not me. There is always room for instructive criticism, it’s like I get to learn what other brains know and it makes my day a little bit more illuminated,” public speaking teacher Mr. Carter said.

Seeing how fun it can be in this class there are definitely some speeches that stick with the teacher Mr. Carter.

“One of my favorite speeches was a student who showed us how to bind books. They brought a bunch of paper, leather, with an insane amount of glue and they made a book right in front of us, It was amazing.” Carter said.
