Mask Mandate Reinstated Beginning Jan. 31

On Jan. 21 a mask mandate was implemented and all students and staff are required to wear masks until further notice.

After returning to school from winter break, there has been an increase in COVID-19 cases. The school’s positive cases are above 2.5%. According to the MCSS “Ready, Set, Forward plan”, masks are required to be worn at all times by staff and students when the percentage is above 2.5.

Principal Chris Shaw sent out an email Jan. 20 stating that a mask will be required upon returning to school Jan. 31. This will be in effect until the COVID cases drop below 0.5% for five consecutive school days. Once the cases fall below 0.5%, the campus will transition back to masks becoming optional. The current positive case for Sparkman is 3.3%.

The CDC recommends anyone exposed to COVID to quarantine for at least five full days before coming in contact with anyone. After quarantine, watch for symptoms for ten full days. For assurance, get tested, continue to wear masks and avoid crowded places.
