New Business Teacher Understands Benefits of Business Courses
When preparing students for the future, business skills are crucial to learn because of everyday interactions. With the retirement of the previous business teacher Andrew Heller stepped up to the plate to take on the task of teaching this vital course.
Heller graduated college in 2017 and this is his third year teaching business courses. He found a love for business through his passion for creativity and leadership.
“These skills drew me towards the business mindset and being able to apply them in various projects within the business field to market, design and create different ventures.” Heller said.
He believes business classes benefit students in various different ways. They learn life skills that will help them in whatever they choose to pursue in the future.
“Business classes are important because they prepare students for everyday life in the working world. Students get a glimpse and ideal of interviewing, obtaining a job, learning about taxes and wages, entrepreneurships, goal setting, refinement and so much more to help them become successful in life and follow any path they may choose to take,” Heller said.
Heller came to teach in September, after classes had already started. It is often nerve-wracking being the new person and not knowing what to expect, but that couldn’t stop him from his passion for teaching.
“At first I was a little worried about being the new, young random guy. I had no idea what to expect from the students nor the faculty, and I didn’t know if I’d be or my teaching style would be accepted upon my arrival. I was extremely nervous but I knew I had a lot to offer and that I genuinely care about all those that I interact with, so when I teach it’s from the heart and full of passion,” Heller said.
Heller hopes that students grasp an ideal of what they want to accomplish in life from these courses and use these practices and strategies everyday whether it’s starting their own business or becoming part of one. This week students are learning about customer relations, by learning how to meet customer expectations, and even how Quality Customer service can either make or break a business.
“I like to learn and I really like to make sure my students understand any information we cover so the best way is being myself, the Jolly Giant! I have enjoyed every single day here so far,” Heller said.
