Winter brings girl scout cookie season, higher prices

February 29, 2016

This year there is one big change on the price. The month of February: 29 days of pure sweets. This is when everyone gains 10 pounds, not just from Valentine’s Day chocolate also because this is Girl Scout cookie month.

Girl Scout cookies are ever-changing, every year they add some flavors and take some away to meet the consumers of the time. For example four of the nine Girl Scout cookie flavors this year are vegan. They also have one that is gluten free. This is because we see more and more people looking towards a healthy lifestyle.

This year Girl Scout cookies went up to four dollars. This is only a 50 cent change from previous years. High school students already do not have much money but it is extremely hard to resist little girls who are just trying to win a bike.

“I love selling Girl Scout cookies because I love seeing the smiles on people’s faces when they get them, sophomore Girl Scout Makayla Tomaino said.

Girl Scout cookies are loved by many and eaten by most. These cookies have been around for many years and are still popular.

“When I was little my favorite cookie was a Thin Mint because my mom liked them too. Eating these cookies helps me reminisce on my childhood, sophomore Sidney Al-Dijaili  said. “It is crazy to think this just started as a community group selling shortbread cookies for outreach in their area.”
