Class experiences a new Huntsville attraction

January 27, 2016

You are locked in a room with six other people, and the way you came in is the only way out. Most would think of this as a dream or nightmare. In this situation, it is real, and it is a game.

The idea of escape rooms have been implemented in applications for phone or online games but now they are becoming an activity in which people spend time and money doing. These “real life” escape rooms have been opening in cities such as, Birmingham, Nashville, Gatlinburg and now, Huntsville.

Huntsville Escape Rooms opened up on Jan. 15 and hoped to bring this experience to the city. Since opening, they have seen full bookings for almost everyday because it is able to provide something that people could not have gotten anywhere else in this area

Huntsville Escape Rooms features two rooms, the Informant and the Psych Ward, and each one has a unique story. The Informant is about Brock Lassiter, who has disappeared during an investigation. The Psych Ward tells the story about Dr. Sharon Gunter who had a psychotic break due to the loss of his brother and has threatened to release a toxin into the city.

Participants get exactly one hour to figure out all the clues and escape. They get hints that appear on a screen from the people running that room in order to help them escape. They have to use these hints and their own knowledge to figure out all of the puzzles and combinations. With sneaky water bottles and  deceitful soda cans, the room utilized clues that could only be seen in a specific way.

The Crimson Crier team attacked the Psych Ward, and it was one of the best experiences I have had.

The moment of excitement that everyone felt in that room when a new clue was found or figured out was such an accomplished feeling. We were able to escape from the room after using up almost the entire hour. As soon as we were able to open the door, our entire group started jumping up and down with joy because we escaped. We were one of the first three teams to escape since it has been open, and we set a record as the fastest team to complete it.

Although it provides an experience that I would do over and over, Huntsville Escape Rooms has just opened and only has two rooms available. The rooms never change, so people can only do them once. I hope that it will be able to attract more people and build more rooms to create a better experience for customers.

Now that we have escaped … Can you?
