On Feb. 7 at the Sparkman Nine auditorium the cross country and track and field teams are hosting a health and wellness seminar based on the physical health of student athletes. There will be two speakers who will inform students on how to stay injury free.

Andrew Walker has been a physical therapist for nearly 14 years and he has witnessed many athletes suffer injuries that could have been prevented. He believes education is one of the biggest ways to achieve and prevent injuries and is the main reason for the motivation to talk to students at our school.

“I hope that students and parents will leave with actionable information that will help them make better decisions about training, exercises and when to seek help” Walker said.

This seminar will benefit students by hoping to achieve less injuries by talking about the strategies that will help them perform better and spend less time away from the sport. Injuries can lead to people stopping sports altogether and they are working to achieve that these injuries do not happen.

“At this event i will be talking about how we can use various aspects of training to be more efficient,” Walker said “which will help athletes reduce their risk of injury and improve performance.”

This event is welcomed to anyone but mostly reaches out to the cross country, track and field teams and any sport that involves running.

“I also hope we will get athletes from other sports that involves running [football, soccer] as they will learn some helpful things as well.” Walker said.
