The playoff rankings are here. The ninth week of the college football season holds high-profile contests as the College Football Playoff rankings arrive for Week 10.

#2 Ohio State and #15 Penn State played a close contest in Pennsylvania as the Buckeyes keep their undefeated record. The Buckeyes got to a fast start away from home, gaining a 10-0 lead at the end of the first quarter and forcing mistakes from the Penn State offense. The Nittany Lions were able to steady the ship and go into the half leading 14-13 thanks to two touchdown passes from quarterback Sean Clifford. The score kept close at the end of the third, with the only score being a Buckeye field goal, but this would not continue as the Buckeyes scored four touchdowns in quick succession in the fourth quarter. The home team was unable to match this pace and ended with a 44-31 loss at home.

The Buckeyes were not the only undefeated team to defend their record as the now #1 Tennessee Volunteers hosted the Kentucky Wildcats on Halloween weekend. Both teams entered this season with high expectations but the Volunteers have been the only program to live up to those hopes. They entered this matchup -11.5 point favorites but they far exceeded this prediction, outscoring their opponents 44-6 at home.

The surprise of the weekend came in the Big 12 matchup between then #9 Oklahoma State and #22 Kansas State. The Wildcats were slight favorites in this matchup despite their ranking difference with the Cowboys. But they far exceeded any expectations and what was tipped as a close contest turned into a rout of the reigning Big 12 champions. Wildcats quarterback Will Howard had a career game as he threw for 296 yards and four touchdowns, leading Kansas State for a statement 48-0 victory over Oklahoma State.

Top 3 Games to Watch for Week 10

  • #1 Tennessee Volunteers @ #3 Georgia Bulldogs

The matchup of the only remaining undefeated teams in the SEC takes place in Athens, Georgia this Saturday. These teams meet for one of the highest-ranked regular season matchups in College Football history and in what could be a precursor to a playoff game come the end of the season. The high-flying Volunteers travel as -7.5 point underdogs, hoping to upset the reigning national champions behind Heisman-hopeful quarterback Hendon Hooker.

  • #6 Alabama Crimson Tide @ #10 LSU Tigers

The Crimson Tide travel to Baton Rouge for one of the classic matchups of the season following their Week 9 bye. The #6 ranked Tide still hold their playoff hopes in their hands after their loss to the #1 ranked Volunteers and hope to take one step closer to the SEC championship game with a win over the Tigers under the lights at Tiger Stadium. But this will not be an easy feat with LSU also returning from a bye week after their heavy victory against Ole Miss in Week 8.

  • #13 Kansas State Wildcats vs. #24 Texas Longhorns

The #13 Wildcats welcome the #24 Longhorns for another high-profile Big 12 after their heavy victory against Oklahoma State. Despite their victory though, the Wildcats are underdogs in this matchup with the three-loss Longhorns still having heavy expectations behind quarterback Quinn Ewers and Heisman-hopeful running back Bijan Robinson. This is predicted to be a tight contest with the Longhorns being only -2.5 point favorites and could be a game that may define the outlook for the Big 12 toward the end of the season.
