Last week President Donald Trump gave the annual State of the Union address to Congress and the American people.

Due to the government shutdown, the address was delayed by two weeks. Trump’s main goal was to appear bipartisan, though some issues he addressed were apart of a Republican agenda.

With immigration continuing to be a big issue, Trump once again pushed for Congress to pass a budget including funding for his southern border wall. Trump recently sent more troops to the Mexican-American border to combat the influx of illegal immigrants. Because a majority of Congress opposes the wall, he was been in an uphill battle to get the funding to build it. With another shutdown looming in the near future, Trump is adamant in finally receiving the funding by any means possible.

President Trump also addressed the bill he was pressing Congress to pass on abortion, one that would prevent an abortion late in a pregnancy. This comes after a bill was passed in New York allowing women to have an abortion, even if it came late in the pregnancy. However, the only reason this would happen is if it is to save the mother’s life. While that has been stated in the bill, people around the country are pushing for Congress to pass a bill making it illegal for a women to have an abortion after a certain time or altogether.

While Trump made many calls to Congress to pass bills apart of a mostly Republican agenda, he also made justification for many things he has done so far in his president. One of these issues being his reason for pulling troops out of the ongoing wars in the Middle East. Trump stated in the address that the troops currently in the Middle Eastern were fighting a war that was bound to never end.

While Trump’s address focus predominantly on the controversial things that are ongoing in the country and around the world, he also have a few good moments. He took the time to recognize the increase of women not only serving in the workforce, but the ones who were recently elected in Congress. This comes after many comments Trump has made against women in past speeches and interviews. He also took the time to recognize the men who served in past war, and people who were battling problems that are ongoing in the country today.

Overall President Trump’s address was one that was more structured, as he tried to push his willingness to be bipartisan. While people will have to wait to see if he is more just the words he spoke, it is sure that in the coming weeks more will be seen of the problems addressed by the president.
