Student Government Plans For Upcoming Year
August 13, 2018
The beginning of a new school year calls for new beginnings all around. This is no exception for SGA as the organization awaits an exciting school year.
For co-president, Heaven Colquiett, summer vacation was spent meeting with fellow officers and principal Chris Shaw to plan out everything the school year has in store. Each conversation sparked new ideas and shed light on new possibilities.
“We don’t have anything set in stone,” co-vice president, Keaton Rohlfs said. “But I think we have some really good ideas we are bringing to the table.”
Last year’s successful events, like Make-A-Wish and the Elementary Christmas Program, will take place again this year. These activities allow SGA to give back to the community and allow students to get involved in community service.
“Like last year we will be having the Homecoming dance a week before the game,” Rohlfs said. “We will be doing this because it is easier on SGA to plan.”
When it comes to new ideas and activities, SGA is focused on organizing the club, getting more students involved, creating new homecoming ideas and opening volunteer hours. There is even talk of an Easter egg drop involving a helicopter.
While nothing is completely verified, as of now, the organization remains hopeful for the year ahead.
“I plan to try and do new things to make the school year more fun and memorable,” Colquiett said. “We have some really good things planned. It looks like it’s going to be a good year.”
