Courtlyn Hart Expresses Her Creativity Through Designing T-Shirts

Students here are never short of creativity. Junior Courtlyn Hart has a new way of expressing that through photography.

Courtlyn has been making T-shirts out of old photography photos since summer. This idea started when she found a creative solution to turn a negative into a positive.

“The reason why I wanted to make T-shirts is because I had a ton of photos from photography,” Courtlyn said. “ I wanted something more to do with these photos rather than them piling up in my room.”

Her reason for these T-shirts go a little beyond just putting photos to a different use. She finds an underlying quality with the way these shirts turn out.

“I just really enjoy how aesthetically pleasing they are,” Courtlyn said. “I thought that it would look cool on something else like a t-shirt and that’s how the idea sparked.”

Making these shirts have a good process behind them. Courtlyn shared her creative process on how these shirts are made from scratch.

“I use Photoshop to put the design onto transfer sheets,” Courtlyn said. “Transfer sheets are what I use to get the design onto the shirt. It’s a tedious process you have to put a sheet in the printer a certain way. After its printed correctly all I have to do is iron it on the shirt.”

Courtlyn’s creativity is also shared with her parents as they support and assist her.

“My mom knows and she actually buys all the shirts I put photos onto.” said Courtlyn.

Courtlyn does not want to stop with her current process. She wants to do even more with her idea.

“I think it would be pretty cool if I could take this idea to another level,” Courtlyn said “ I thought maybe put them in Lowe Mill somewhere to sell  or as an art piece.”
