Student Reviews It: Chapter 2 Movie

With the remake of the first “IT” movie being a huge success in the box office, it was apparent that viewers were going to get a second movie finishing the story written by Stephen King. With the movie well received by critics, people were more than excited to see the movie.

The movie runs for almost three hours, and has down moments during the movie great for bathroom breaks. However, the entire movie being equally as good for every scene, it would be well advised to stop to the restroom before the movie begins. The movie itself is labeled a horror film, viewers will be in for a few jumpscares caused by Pennywise the Clown. Even with all the scary parts that came with the movie there were also funny lighthearted parts to go along.

The last movie ending with all the members of the losers club parting ways and moving on with life, this movie picks up 27 years later, showing all the characters as adults. The casting for the now adult characters is spectacular. While the child actors are not related to the adult actors, directors did an amazing job in selecting people who look alike for the roles. This can be seen throughout the movie, as both the children and adults star in the movie.

In comparison to the book, it does seem fairly accurate. While the book is set in the ‘60s and 80s, the movies takes the change of setting it in the ‘80s and present time to help appeal more to the new generation. The writers do an amazing job at keeping the story the same despite the time changes, and they do a great job at showing how the characters would have lived had it been 2018 in the book. The writers also stick close to the book when it comes to the detail that can be found in both the book and movie.

This movie overall is one that is not only well written, but also well-tested and well edited. With the movie having an equal balance of horror and comedy, it makes for a great movie for a teenager to go out and see with a group of friends. Overall, this movie would be ranked around an 8.7/10.
