KiKi Do You Love Me?
August 28, 2018
Another day, another viral sensation, another challenge for social media fanatics to go to crazy extremes to make the ultimate video.
June 10, 2018 marked the start of this year’s most recent challenge as Drakes song “In My Feelings” hit the internet, sweeping social media just a few weeks later. Since then, the hashtag has over 553,000 posts on Instagram with far more videos on Snapchat and Twitter while the song itself has 11,771,043 views on YouTube. These videos, ranging from hitting every move on the right beat to tripping out of cars and running into stop signs, have become known as the #inmyfeelingschallenge.
Unlike previous challenges where participants just whip, dab or simply stand still like a statue, “In My Feelings” challengers must dance while entering and exiting a moving car. When the music starts they open the door and get out of the car. Dancers then make a make a heart gesture when Drake sings “Kiki, do you love me?” and perform a driving motion for the lyrics “Are you riding?” If they make it through all of this, with some additional dance moves in between, the dancer will attempt to get back into the moving car and drive away as if nothing ever happened.
Despite the challenge being ruled dangerous and described as “stupid” multiple teenagers, kids and young adults continue to participate in this new trend. Whether one does the challenge themselves or simply watches others do it online, most people can agree that the Canadian Rapper’s song has swept the nation.
