Despite a late rally and 15 points from senior Thomas Melbert, the boys’ basketball team fell to Hoover 49-44 to end their season.
Hoover got off to a fast start, and jumped ahead to a 22-11 halftime lead. Even with a huge deficit in front of them, the team continued to fight back. They used a burst of scoring in the fourth quarter to pull within two points of Hoover, but late three pointers by the opposition sank any hopes of a comeback.
The team had an up and down season with definitive highs, a blowout win in the State Tournament over Tuscaloosa County, and lows, a one point loss to rival Bob Jones. The team finally rounded into form near the end of the season by claiming a victory over Bob Jones to secure a tournament spot. The team ended the season on a high note by playing well in the state tournament, even if they could not bring home the championship.
