Take it to the mat

This past weekend, the wrestling team brought home the gold in the Huntsville High Invitational.
Fifteen people from schools in and around the northern Alabama area competed, but only our own Patrick Anderson came out on top. He was greatly enthusiastic to tell of his celebrations.
“[I celebrated by] eating,” Anderson said. “We can’t really eat during the season, so after that tournament I went home and started eating, gained too much weight and now I have to cut it all back.”
The Huntsville High Invitational is quite a big event to the wrestlers and winning it means that sectionals and state, two other big tournaments, are practically in the bag. Anderson and the team know how to prepare for such events. His success in the Invitational confirm his technique.
“[We] Practice all the time. There’s lots of running and your diet has to be good,” Anderson said. “[During the practices] we do drills a lot, we drill different moves that we need to work on.”
When asked how it feels to be the first Sparkman student to place in this event, Anderson gave an almost peculiar answer.
“It feels pretty good, but it can feel pretty lonely because I’m the only one and all,” Anderson said. “There’s no one to share the love with.”
A modest answer. The wrestling team is being taught right physically and mentally. We can win any tournament with a good upbringing, a mentality well respected here in the south.
