Baseball team starts out strong

Stringing hits together and scoring runs is coming exceedingly easy for the varsity baseball team so far this year.

The team’s record is 18-1 with 26 more games left to play. Their only loss was against PelhamHigh School with a five point difference. Senior short stop Tanner Burns believes they are practically unstoppable.

“We are not weak in one particular area. We started out hot but we have got a long way to go. We are trying to be the best we can be,” Burns said.

There are four new freshmen additions to the team this year, Braden Garrison, Reid Powers, Alex Stratchen and Jared Howell. They have all helped the team reach their mid-season record.

“The season has been going very well for us; Jared Howell has been catching very well. I am very proud of how well our team is doing this early into the season,” assistant coach Ben Stevenson said.

To continue their achievement, the team plans on a victory this Friday against HuntsvilleHigh School. This game will be their first area game. Games are at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m.

“We need to hold this record so we can make it to state. We sure hope to do well,” Burns said.
