Virtual Reality Advances Human Potential

Virtual+Reality+Advances+Human+Potential

Within the last century, humankind has advanced further in technology and capabilities than in any other. Much more recently, we have begun making our steps towards not only exploring other realities like the vacuum of space or the depths of the ocean, but attempting to create them entirely and immerse ourselves within.

I talk of none other than the phenomenon of virtual reality, which at its base, is what it claims to be. A reality created from software that was originally non-existent.

This concept has existed for much longer than the technology that has begun to come about, videogames and cinema have all been ways of shaping a different, fictional reality that is nonphysical. While not cut from the exact same cloth, the purpose has remained the same, to immerse within what originally was not.

In comparison to science-fiction, our current attempts at virtual reality seem almost ridiculous to even claim it is in the same arena. We have struggled for years to even begin to replicate a fully immersive world of which one can traverse or exist in, perhaps even live in. That of course, is not in our capacity yet.

What we have currently can possibly be compared to just another console of video-gaming, perhaps more unique, perhaps newer, and more graphic, but all the same amounts to just another prettier version of the hardware we already have preexisting. We cannot move into different realities, we can’t interact with them on a level like reality, and it cannot interact with us on that same precise level.

However, our progress is no small feat. We inch ever closer to being able to create new reality and immerse ourselves within it. Our feats travel at a faster rate than ever before, perhaps striking fear and controversy as a result, but our transformation of reality and the human race continues forwards at a startling advancement.
