Kids movie brings realization

This animated children’s movie may not be a person’s first choice on Netflix, but on a late night I decided to take a chance, in the end I did not regret it. I was a little skeptical during the beginning of the movie, to be honest, the summary and pictures displayed when you click on it are not the most inviting, but my mother always told me not to judge a book by its cover.

The animation displayed in the teasers does not look appealing to watch; in reality the entire movie is not designed that way. The insubstantial animation is only used when a character in the movie tells a section of the The Little Prince’s story.

The Little Prince expresses the battle between the colorful imaginations of children meeting the bustling adult life of the real world. The movie follows the life of a little girl who is pressured with the ideals her mom sets for her, to be the perfect adult. For example, her mother gives her a life plan that she must follow in order to pursue her mother’s expectations. In our society this could be parallel to the cookie-cutter lifestyle, to grow up, go to school, go to college, have a high paying job behind a desk, marry, raise a family and live a stable boring life.

Living this way can become dull and tiring, and that is exactly what happened in this girl’s life. Interested in the mysterious lifestyle of her neighbor, The Aviator, she ventors out to meet him. In parallel, this represents children venturing out into the unknown. The Aviator represents creativeness and imagination, which in the movie is virtually nonexistent. The Aviator introduces the little girl to the story that he wrote called “The Little Prince.”

The Little Prince, is also a children’s book written by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. However, the movie does not follow the book. The book is told from The Aviator’s perspective about his experience with “The Little Prince.” The only thing absent from the book is the little girl’s perspective.

This movie extremely impacted my life, because of the moment my classmates and I are faced with.We are seniors, about to venture out into the world, and the question is: Do you stay on course and live a cookie-cutter lifestyle or take a chance and experiment with a new way of living?
