Senior sees need for prom guidelines

Prom has become one thing: disgusting.  Not the decorations or the food or, well actually, the music is pretty awful also. But the attitude and the behavior of those who attend is absolutely appalling. For that, a letter was sent out to lay down and reinforce rules to make prom the classy, formal event it should be.

The letter states:

“We expect our students to conduct themselves … in a manner that would make their parents and our community proud.”

That means not hiking up your dress and bending over to twerk.  Administration is making a move to cease the use of twerking, grinding and other lewd moves on the dance floor. Let me pause to applause the administration for this action.  Attending prom last year was very uncomfortable and I witness way too many interactions that, if they have to be done at all, should be done behind a closed door. Yet children think it is “dancing”.  The letter puts that to rest and expects all dancers to “remain vertical.”

The statement covers clothing also. Young men do not have much to worry about as all they need is a tux or suit. But the young women can, thank goodness, no longer let all of it hang out or show.  Plunging necklines, which there were a plethora of at last year’s event, are a no-go as well as see-through material and cut-outs in inappropriate areas.  Also prohibited are Short McShortty dresses and sagging pants.

To help administration and law enforcement uphold these rules, parents have been asked to volunteer to chaperone. This could mean your mom or dad. So, students, think wisely when you plan and dress for prom because you will be watched and if you do not act like a civilized person, you will be leaving the dance floor.

Let us make our parents and community proud and prove that we actually do possess class.
