The Class of 2017 has left a permanent mark on Sparkman high school.

The class of 2017 as a whole received $15 million in scholarships and were honored at the annual Senior Award Ceremony on Tuesday, May 16.

Churches, community organizations and colleges from around the Southeast were on campus to present scholarship certificates to students. The largest number of scholarships were presented by Mississippi State University, Auburn University, and the University of South Alabama. The U.S. military was also present to honor the 16 students who have enlisted.

Madison County Supt. Matt Massey was in attendance and presented a new award to seniors who have taken 6 or more AP classes. Almost 50 students received this award

Principal Chris Shaw also inducted three alumni into the Hall of Fame.  Alabama Speaker of the House and 1970 graduate Mac MacCutheon, former teacher and coach Dickie Ferguson and former principal, Manuel Wallace were inducted.

“It was an honor to be included, “MacCutcheon said. “I have fond memories of Sparkman High School and my time as a Senator.”
