Faculty takes students in annual basketball game

November 20, 2015

The faculty faced off against the students today in the annual basketball game and as usual the faculty took the win, 59-46. This year students were asked to donate two cans of food instead of the usual $2 donation.

“We thought it would be a great way to increase the number of cans that we donate to local charities,” SGA sponsor Ashly Johnston said.

The faculty took the lead early with a 3-point shot by coach Cedric Austin. The shot was quickly answered Shemar Walker. This caused the crowd to get excited early in the game.

“It’s always a lot of fun getting to ball out in front of your classmates. They get excited and we got more hyped for the game,” junior Libby Reid said.

The student team was comprised of a random drawing of names. The faculty had 17 volunteers to play this year, including first-timers Ashley Fitch, Johnston, Erin Coggins, Nekeysha Jones and aide Kevin Duncan.

There was only one controversy. The students felt that they were cheated by the refs.

“It wasn’t fair. The word is that they practiced but I don’t know if that is true or not. They only called fouls on us and they fouled, too,” senior Bailey Mayes said.
