Throughout the week there has been talk from students, friends and even teachers regarding the new U2 album release. On Sep. 9 U2’s new album, “Songs of Innocence”, was released on iTunes.
This release is unlike any other. Apple teamed up with U2 to give the album away for free to all iTunes users. It was put on everyone’s iClouds, where some users then had the option to download it onto their phones.
There are school-wide opinions dealing with the album. While many people love U2’S new album, there are also quite a few who don’t enjoy the music.
“I’m mad because I don’t want it there and [iTunes] shouldn’t be allowed to put anything on my phone,” senior Bailey Walker said.
For those who enjoy the album, they could not be happier. No one has complained about getting free music that they love.
“I like how they decided to give it to everyone. I like “Iris”; it’s a good old rock ‘n’ roll song. Their songs sum up the atmosphere and their beats are good to groove to,” junior Dominique Satterwhite said.
Something everyone wants to know is why U2 would give out an album for free. At the launch of the iPhone 6, Paul Hewson, who is known by his stage name “Bono,” explained that the band is trying to find a new generation to connect with their music.
“From the very beginning, U2 have always wanted our music to reach as many people as possible, the clue is in our name I suppose – so today is kind of mind-blowing to us.” Bono said.
