Mission Statement and Editorial Policy

Mission Statement:

Journalists will honor the school community and the journalistic profession by placing, truth, accuracy, and objectivity first. We will use these three characteristics to best serve our student body and our community. We will strive for work of the highest quality.

We will review Freedom of the Press as an inalienable right of people in a free society and know that with this freedom, we have the responsibility to discuss, question, and challenge actions.

Editorials and Letters to the Editor:

  1. Unsigned editorials reflect the opinion of at least two-thirds of the staff. Columns with bylines reflect the opinions of the writer.
  2. The newspaper will attempt to publish all letters to the editor. The staff reserves the right to edit letters for length and clarity but without changing the letter’s original meaning or tone.
  3. Letters to the editor should be signed, and when published the writer’s name and identity should appear after the letter.

In the Event of Error:

  1. Writers must take responsibility for their actions and admit to errors if they occur in published material. They must correct all errors promptly.
  2. It is the policy of the newspaper to correct false information in print as soon as possible after its publication.
